Go Vloggy: rough video practice shipped in public

Go Vloggy is a short McGrinsey video experiment from May 2022: me hitting buttons in an editor I barely knew, then shipping the cut anyway. Video is not the only communication tool. It is still one of the strongest ways to show an idea before the slide deck arrives.

I am not a savvy editor. I press things until the timeline behaves. That is the whole craft level here. The point of shipping Go Vloggy was not polish. It was practice in public: clients, teammates, people I coach, strangers who care about the same topics.

Why ship a rough cut

A rough cut teaches you faster than another tutorial tab. You learn which cut lands, which silence is too long, which sentence dies without a face. You also learn that waiting for mastery is a perfect way to publish nothing.

Hints for hyperfast infotainment editing are welcome. Jump cuts, hard captions, one idea per beat, music that does not eat the voice. If you have a stack that gets a useful clip out in under an hour, send it.

What video is good for here

  • Ideas that move. A process, a map, a before-and-after. Stills can hold a claim. Motion holds a path.
  • Tone you cannot fake in bullet points. Pace, pause, laugh, deadpan. The room hears it.
  • Coaching and team sync. One clip replaces three paragraphs of “what I meant was”.

What video is bad for: dense tables, legal wording, anything a reader must quote line by line. Keep those in text. Use the clip to open the door.

Art of business, for now

Consider this art for the time being. The art of business. Not a finished channel. A lab take: “I don’t like biznizz, i love it.” The spelling stays as written. The clip stays embedded above so you can watch the experiment, not only read about it.

If Go Vloggy helps one person send a clearer idea tomorrow, the random button-mashing already paid rent. Next upgrade is the same loop: cut, ship, listen, cut again.
